WD's tiny TV Live media streamer supports a wide range of popular formats and it can play them from directly-connected USB drives or from computers on a local network. It's a device that's easy to use and its remote is comfortable to work with. The main downside is that I had to wait for a firmware update for the streamer to work properly during my evaluation period.

I've transferred and recovered many files through Windows Explorer. Over the last couple of days Windows Explorer fails to recognise or connect to the hub. I can see files on it from WMP however. The WD TV then picks up the drives automatically (with the hub re-connected of course). It sounds a bit involved but it's a lot better than disconnecting the drives from the PC. Whether anyone else can get it to work
